The Bridge ICLC Organization Winner
November 11, 2015
The Bridge of Storm Lake was the winner of the Dan Chavez Beyond the Horizon Organization Award this week at the 30th annual Iowa Culture and Language Conference in Coralville.
The ICLC conference was attended by over 800 Iowa educators who provide services to English Language Learners in schools and communities. The organization award is presented to an organization that advocates on the behalf of the immigrant, refugee, and non-English speaking populations of Iowa. The organization award winner promotes the development of policies and procedures that are supportive of new Iowans in areas of need, such as social services, education, workforce development, or housing.
The Bridge was nominated by the Storm Lake School District. In its nomination, the district outlined all the numerous activities that the three neighborhood centers provide, and the highly beneficial services that have been put into place to give immigrant, refugee, and non-English speaking people the support and skills necessary to be successful in their new community of Storm Lake.
