The top ranked Newell-Fonda girls basketball team is one victory away from the state tournament after defeating visiting Paton-Churdan 76-18 in their regional semi-final game played Friday night at Newell.  Another night of outstanding defense, depth, hustle, and hard work led Newell-Fonda to their 50th consecutive win as head coach Dick Jungers' team smothered the Rockets from the opening tip.

Megan Morenz scored 15 of her game high 17 points in the first half, Macy Sievers scored nine of her eleven in the 2nd half, and Ella Larsen chipped in with ten.  The Mustangs built a 41-10 lead by halftime.

Paton-Churdan was led by Danielle Hoyle's 12 points and the Rockets finish the year 15-9.

Newell-Fonda (23-0) will now play Woodbury Central (18-5) next Wednesday night at 7pm in Cherokee.  The two teams played back on January 4th in Newell, a game the Mustangs won 77-38.
