Thursday State Tournament wrestling results

Class 3A

Storm Lake-

Kole Wiegert at 170 lost his first round match to Linn-Mar's Ryan Plummer by major decision 14-3, and then lost by fall in 2:32 to Iowa City-West's Ashton Barker.  Wiegert finishes the season with a record of 21-8.

                       

Colton Dreith at 195 lost his first round match by fall in 2:54 to Southeast Polk's Gabe Christenson, but bounced back beating Iowa City-West's Anu Dukon in a 1st round consolation match by fall in 2:33.  Dreith will now wrestle in the 2nd round of consolations Friday morning.

 

Class 2A

OA-BCIG-

Jake Nieman at 145 won his opening match over Van Meter-Earlham's Tyler Haynes by major decision 16-7. Nieman held a 8-7 lead after two periods and would then pick up a pair of near falls and score his 40th win of the year.  The senior will now wrestle Friday morning in the quarter-finals.

 

Cherokee-

Brenden Fisch at 170 lost his first round match to Osage's Spencer Mooberry by fall in 2:53 and then lost in the first round of consolations to Red Oak's Bruce Lukehart by decision 6-2 and was eliminated.

 

Class 1A

Sioux Central-

Chris Ferguson at 120 Lost his first round match to Lisbon's Brandon Paez by decision 8-6, he would then defeat Woodbury Central's Brackett Locke by fall in 2:47.  He will now wrestle Friday afternoon in 2nd round consolations.

 

East Sac County-

Nate Thomsen at 132 won his opening round match over ACGC's Gunnar Larsen by fall in 1:59.  He will now wrestle in the quarter-final's Friday afternoon.

 

Pocahontas Area-

Dane Johnson at 285 won his opening round match by fall in 3:34 and will wrestle in the quarter-finals on Friday afternoon.

 

South Central Calhoun-

Kevin King at 113 lost his first match by decision 7-1, but won his first round consolation match by major decison 14-4.

Jordan Khommanyvong at 138 won his first round match by decision 5-1.

Blake McAlister at 160 won his first round match by decision 5-2.

Brian King at 220 lost his first round match by fall in 2:13, and would then lose his first round consolation match 8-3 and was eliminated.

 

Manson Northwest Webster-

John Schuttler at 195 lost his first match by major decision 9-1, but bounced back and won by decision 9-4 in the first round of consolations.
