2A District Basketball at Rockwell City Recap

Thursday's 2A boys basketball district semifinals in Rockwell City began with Southeast Valley winning the rubber match of the season over East Sac County 56-45.  

Southeast Valley led early, but the Raiders took charge midway through the 1st quarter, going on a 13-2 run, and led 15-18 after eight minutes.  

East Sac took a 21-20 lead into halftime, but the Jaguars took the lead back for good at 26-25, and were up 40-34 after the 3rd.  A basket by Tyler Schmitt made the score 49-45, before the Jaguars ended the game on a 7-0 run.  

Camden Schroeder led East Sac with 17 points, and Tyler Schmitt had 11.  Aaron Graves had 16 for Southeast Valley, and Hunter Kruse had 15 off the bench.  

The Raiders season ends at 16-7.  Their seniors include Brett Sharp, Quintin Ludwig, Brant Strong, Josh Wernimont, Griffin O'Neill, Derek Ashinger, Nick Gerdes, and Korey Obmann.  

Southeast Valley (17-5) will play South Central Calhoun in a district final Tuesday in Manson.  The Titans never trailed in their 79-55 win over Alta Aurelia.  

SCC jumped out to a 9-2 lead, and were up 18-12 after the 1st quarter.  The Warriors got the score tied at 22-22, and were within 28-27 late in the 2nd quarter, but SCC got back to back threes to take a 34-27 lead into halftime.  

Alta Aurelia got as close as 46-40 late in the 3rd, and were only down 51-43 entering the 4th quarter, but the Titans pulled away from there with a 19-5 stretch.  

South Central Calhoun hit 12 threes in the game.  Zane Neubaum led four Titans in double-figures with 23, and Cole Corey had 20.  Anthony Krier led the Warriors with 16, and Trey Englemann followed with 12.  

Alta Aurelia finishes at 9-14.  Their seniors include Krier, Logan McCoy, and Diogo Sliefert.  

South Central Calhoun is now 18-4.  They split with Southeast Valley during the season.
