Panthers comeback falls short at Gehlan

Trailing by 47-32 margin going into the final quarter the St. Mary's girls basketball team cut it to 55-50 with 1:30 to go but their bid for a road win came up short as they lost at LeMars Gehlan 60-51.

The Panthers trailed 39-22 late in the 3rd quarter when Danika Demers, Ellie Bacon, and Emily Nothwehr hit three straight 3-pointers to make it 39-31.  But the Jays would close the 3rd on a 8-1 run to pad their lead heading into the 4th quarter.

Nothwehr buried five 3-pointers in the game and finished with a team high 18, Bacon had 12, and Demers added 10.  Freshman Sydney Hurd had a monster game in the paint coming one point away from a triple double in points, blocks, and rebounds.

The Jays, now 13-9, were led by Lauren Heying's game high 19 points.  They will play at MMC-RU Friday night in a 1A regional semi-final.

The Panthers finish the year with a record of 11-11.
