Tornadoes/Yanga oust visiting Raptors

January 13, 2020 9:40pm

Mary Yanga poured in a game high 20 points and made a free throw with 5.6 seconds left in the game giving Storm Lake a 47-46 win over Ridge View.

The Raptors Hanna Blackmore had a chance to win the game but her six foot shot with one second left just missed and Storm Lake celebrated their first win of the year.

Storm Lake's largest lead was 26-18 midway through the 3rd quarter but that's when Ridge View went on a 13-2 run to close out the quarter and take a 31-28 lead. Storm Lake trailed 39-33 at the five minute mark when they went on a 11-0 run to take a 44-39 lead with just over two minutes to go.  Ridge View's Kenzee Wunschel would tie the game at 46-46 with an old fashioned three point play with 15 seconds left in the game.  Storm Lake was then able to beat the press and Wunschel fouled Yanga on a layup attempt, Yanga would then make one of two at the free throw line to put Storm Lake ahead.

The Raptors who were led by Wunschel's 13 points fall to 4-6 overall and will host MVAO-COU Tuesday night.  Storm Lake is now 1-9 and will look for their second straight win Thursday night at Alta-Aurelia.
