Second half surge lifts OA-BCIG to victory

The OA-BCIG football team outscored West Marshall 20-0 in the second half and the Falcons advanced to the quarter-final round of the class 2A playoffs with a 26-7 win over visiting West Marshall Friday night at Ida Grove.

Cooper DeJean ran for two scores and passed for another and had 374 yards of total offense as the Falcons won their tenth game of the season and now move on to host defending state champion Prairie City-Monroe next Friday.

After West Marshall scored on their second drive of the game to take a 7-0 lead, Falcons cornerback Easton Harms intercepted a pass and returned it to the Trojans nine yard line.  Four plays later DeJean would sneak it in from a yard out and the Falcons pulled within 7-6, the extra point was missed and the score stayed that way until halftime.

Early in the third quarter Jake Nieman made an interception in the Falcons endzone, Dejean would then lead the Falcons on an 80 yard touchdown drive and capped it off with a 38 yard touchdown strike to Easton Harms for the go-ahead score.  DeJean would later add a 31 yard touchdown run and Josh Peters would ice the game with a late pick six.

DeJean ran the ball 21 times for 132 yards and was 20 of 43 through the air for 242 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions.

Easton Harms had five receptions for 72 yards and a score and Jake Nieman had six catches for 71 yards.  The Falcons had 378 yards of offense while West Marshall had 323.

The Trojans conclude the year 6-4.  

OA-BCIG, now 10-0, will host defendeing state champion Prairie City-Monroe (8-2) Friday at 7pm.  PCM beat Benton in their first round game 34-8.
