Falcons Claim District Crown

October 25, 2019 11:42pm

A stellar 2nd half led OA-BCIG to a 35-13 2A district 9 championship win over Greene County in Ida Grove.

Greene County's defense helped keep them in it in the 1st half with three interceptions.  After Greene County converted a 4th and 17 pass play, Colby Kafer had a seven yard touchdown run to give the Rams a 7-0 lead late in the 1st quarter.

Jake Nieman put an end to Greene County's next drive by intercepting a pass, and the Falcons proceeded to travel 57 yards in just over a minute, as Cooper DeJean fired a 21 yard touchdown pass to William Grote to tie the game at 7-7.

The Rams answered right back, going 58 yards in three plays, as quarterback Brent Riley's seven yard run made it 13-7.

OA-BCIG took the lead for good with just over three minutes to go in the half.  A QB sneak by DeJean gave the Falcons a 14-13 lead at the break.

Nieman picked off another pass midway through the 3rd quarter.  Three plays later, DeJean floated a 21 yard TD pass to Easton Harms to increase the lead to 21-13.  After the Falcons forced a punt, Cooper capped another scoring drive with a 21 yard touchdown run to make the score 28-13.

Greene County had two drives that got inside the five yard line in the 4th quarter, but had no points to show for either, as first they fumbled in the end zone, and then turned it over on downs.  After that second missed opportunity, DeJean put an exclamation point on the win with a 98 yard touchdown run.

Each team managed over 400 yards of offense, with OA-BCIG ending up at 447, and Greene County with 407.  DeJean passed for 271, and rushed for 157.  Harms had 11 catches for 100 yards.

OA-BCIG (9-0) is the 4th seed in the 2A playoff field, and will play in a 1st round game next Friday at home against #12 West Marshall (6-3) at 7pm.  The game will be broadcast on 92.9FM KKIA.
