Storm Lake's defense dominated Denison-Schleswig all night allowing just 115 yards for the game in a 24-0 Tornado win Friday at Denison.

Tate Mattson punctuated the defensive effort with a 4th quarter 45 yard pick six return that iced the game and finished the scoring for the Tornadoes. Storm Lake grabbed an early 8-0 lead when they marched 46 yards on their first possession capped off by a Ben Raveling 12 yard touchdown run, his eight of the season, David Soto would then hit Kole Wiegert for a two-point pass conversion.

The Tornadoes second touchdown came on their first possession of the 2nd half, a ten play-68 yard drive finalized by a David Soto 18 yard touchdown run, he would then run in the two-point conversion to make it 16-0.  After the Mattson interception return for a score Soto ran in another two point conversion for the Tornadoes.

Storm Lake finished the game with 243 yards of offense with 201 on the ground.  Wiegert had a team high 14 carries for 60 yards, Raveling 13 carries for 69, and Soto ran the ball 12 times for 62.  Soto was 6-for-7 through the air for 42 yards.  Jailen Hansen caught three passes for 37 yards.

The Tornado defense held the district's leading rusher Terrance Weah, who came into the game with 760 yards and an 8.9 yards per carry average, to just 47 yards on 15 carries.

Colton Dreith had eight solo tackles in the game, Isaac Stone had five, and Edgar Mendoza had three quarterback sacks.

The Monarchs missed a 37 yard field goal on their second possession of the game and that was the closest they would get to scoring.

Storm Lake is now 5-2 overall, 2-1 in the district and will host Bishop Heelan Friday night.  Denison-Schleswig is now 4-3 overall, and 1-2 in district play.
