Another big night on the ground enabled the Storm Lake football team to remain unbeaten as the Tornadoes traveled to Humboldt Friday night and beat the Wildcats 26-15.

Storm Lake ran the ball 56 times for 284 yards with quarterback David Soto carrying the pigskin 22 times for 81 yards and a touchdown.  Kole Wiegert gained 84 yards on 17 carries and scored a pair of touchdowns, Ben Raveling added 62 yards on ten attempts and Colton Dreith ran for 52 yards on seven carries.  Soto also went 5-for-8 through the air for 82 yards.

Humboldt scored on their first possession of the game, after a short punt set them up at the Tornado 33 yard line Jamison Heinz capped off an eight play drive with a 15 yard touchdown run, the Wildcats made a two-point conversion and it was 8-0. Storm Lake would score on the ensuing drive marching 58 yards on eleven plays.  The Tornadoes scored when David Soto hit Jailen Hansen with a 19 yard touchdown pass on 4th-and-goal, it was the third straight game that the two have connected for a score.  The two point conversion failed and it was 8-6.

Storm Lake would take the lead for good late in the first half when David Soto ran in a 3-yard touchdown with the Humboldt defense barely on the field after they had called a timeout.  The point after attempt was wide left and Storm Lake led 12-8 at the break.

The Tornadoes received the 2nd half kickoff and they would then march 70 yards on six plays and Kole Wiegert scored on a 15 yard run, Soto would then run in the two point conversion and Storm Lake had a 20-8 lead. Humboldt would score on the next drive of the game when Heinz took it in from 12 yards out, the run finished off a 67 yard drive.  The point after was good and the Tornadoes lead was 20-15.

Storm Lake's defense pinned Humboldt deep in their own territory and forced a punt and the next Tornado drive started at the Wildcats 39 yard line.  Wiegert would then carry the ball on four of the next five plays and punch it in from three yards out for his fourth rushing touchdown of the year. The two point conversion failed and the score was 26-15 with under a minute to play in the 3rd quarter and that is the way it stayed. Humboldt had the ball for less than two minutes in the 4th quarter as Storm Lake was able to control the line and run the football. The Wildcats had 185 total yards for the game.  Quarterback Jacob Thurm completed 11-of-20 pass attempts to eight different receivers for 132 yards.

Humboldt falls to 0-3 and will play Spencer next Friday.  Storm Lake, now 3-0 for the 2nd straight year, will host OA-BCIG for their homecoming game this Friday at 7pm.  The Falcons are also 3-0 after their 64-19 win over Cherokee Friday night.  OA-BCIG won last years meeting 32-22.
