Storm Lake gets win over Warriors

The Storm Lake football team scored the final 18 points over the last 13 minutes of the game and the Tornadoes beat Alta-Aurelia 25-10 Friday night at Aurelia.  Ben Raveling ran the ball 20 times for 111 yards and scored a pair of touchdown runs leading a Storm Lake ground game that rushed the ball 59 times for 289 yards.

Anthony Krier put the Warriors on the board with a 37 yard field goal that capped off the opening drive of the game.  Raveling's first score was a three yard run that finished a 13-play 61 yard touchdown for Storm Lake, the extra point was good and the Tornadoes led 7-3 and that would be the score at halftime.

The Warriors would score on their first possesion of the 2nd half when Krier busted off a 29 yard touchdown, Krier would then kick the extra point and the home town team led 10-7 with just under five minutes to play in the 3rd quarter.  Minutes later Storm Lake was facing 4th-down and six yards to go when David Soto found Jailen Hansen on a 41 yard touchdown pass, the extra point was blocked and the Tornadoes took the lead back at 13-10.

The Storm Lake defense would then hold the Warriors scoreless in the 4th quarter while putting up a pair of touchdowns, Raveling ran in from seven yards out finishing off a 9-play 62 yard drive, and David Soto had a one yard touchdown run capping off a 9-play 41 yard drive which was set up by a Hansen interception. The Tornadoes failed on two-point conversion's after both of those scores.

Storm Lake had 369 yards of offense and 14 first downs, the Warriors had 195 total yards and eight first downs.

Kole Wiegert carried the ball 20 times for 77 yards and Colton Dreith ran it 12 times for 96.  Soto finished 6-of-10 for 80 yards and a TD pass.  Hansen had four receptinos for 56 yards and a score.

Krier would finish with 10 carries for 91 yards and a score, quarterback Logan McCoy was 7-of-13 for 61 yards and one interception.

The Warriors, now 1-1, will host South O'Brien next Friday at Aurelia and Storm Lake, now 2-0, will play at Humboldt.  After the game Storm Lake coach Rudy Wieck said this. (click below)
