Alta Aurelia Will Play For State Title

July 24, 2019 10:01pm

Alta Aurelia cooled off a red-hot East Marshall team, advancing to the 2A state championship game with a 2-1 win in the semfinals on Wednesday.

All of the runs were scored in the 1st inning.  With the bases loaded and two outs, Shea Peterson drove in a run with an infield single, and another run scored on the play when the first baseman dropped the ball.  Reagan McIlrath's RBI groundout in the bottom of the 1st cut the Warriors lead in half.

East Marshall had chances as the game progressed, as they left two runners on in 2nd, 3rd, and 5th innings.  In the bottom of the 7th, East Marshall got a leadoff single, but then a bunt attempt was popped up and caught by 3rd baseman Jessica Flaherty, who threw to first base and doubled-up the runner.  Abby Kraemer struck out the next batter to end it.

Kraemer threw a four-hitter, struck out 11, and walked three.  The Warriors had five hits, as they end East Marshall's 19-game winning streak, dropping the 2nd-seed Mustangs to 32-5.

6th-seed Alta Aurelia (22-9) will play top-seed North Linn in Thursday's 2A championship game at 8:15pm.  The game will be broadcast on 92.9FM KKIA.
