Tornadoes Overcome Six-Run Deficit ; Win District Opener

July 19, 2019 11:46pm

Storm Lake scored three runs in the bottom of the 7th to complete an 8-7 comeback win over Boyden Hull Rock Valley Friday night in a 3A baseball district semifinal in Storm Lake.

The Tornadoes trailed 7-1 in the 3rd inning.  RBI singles by Manny Chavez and Drew Price in the 4th closed the gap to 7-3.  Storm Lake added two in the 6th, one of which scored on a Ben Raveling single.

Jake Eddie singled to lead off the 7th, which was followed by three consecutive walks to bring in a run to make it 7-6.  After a strikeout, Drew Price put down a suicide squeeze to tie the game.  Raveling was then hit by a pitch to load the bases again, setting the stage for Mark Eddie's game-winning RBI single.

Mark Eddie also got the win, throwing the final 4 2/3 innings with seven strikeouts. Chavez and Price each had two RBI's, and Cole Kleespies also singled home a run for the Tornadoes, as they avenged last year's district loss to BH-RV, improving to 21-9, and ending the Nighthawks season at 15-9.  It's the Tornadoes first postseason win since 2011.

Storm Lake will play on their home field again in a district final Monday at 7pm against Bishop Heelan, as they also got a walk-off 8-7 win over LeMars in the district semis.  Monday's game will be broadcast on 97.5 KBVU.
