East Sac Pulls Away Late ; Beats Poky in Postseason Opener

East Sac County beat Pocahontas Area 8-0 on Monday night in a Class 2A regional softball 1st round game, marking the Raiders third victory this season over their Twin Lakes Conference foe.  

East Sac scored a run in the 3rd inning on an RBI groundout by Madi Quirk.  A bases loaded walk to Mariah Friedrichsen in the 4th made the score 2-0.  Laryn Sharp drew a bases loaded walk in the 5th to add to the lead.  East Sac put it out of reach with a five-run 6th, highlighted by Macy Gustavson's three-RBI double, and an RBI triple by Josie Bontrager.  

Senior Kara Wilkens, in her final home start, threw a three-hitter with seven strikeouts.  

Indians pitcher Manon Koezen allowed six hits, and struck out six.  Pocahontas Area finishes at 1-25.  The Indians only senior is Alicia Vick.  

East Sac is now 11-17.  The Raiders will play at Emmetsburg on Wednesday at 7pm in a region quarterfinal, which will be broadcast on Mix 101.7FM KAYL.
