Storm Lake Notches Win at Spencer

June 10, 2019 11:08pm

A three-run 4th inning, and the pitching of Mark Eddie, lifted the Storm Lake baseball team to a 4-2 win at Spencer Monday night.

Nick Olesen played a big role in the 4th inning, including singling home two runs, and later scoring on a sac fly by Fletcher Kucera.  A two-out, two-RBI triple by Drew Christofferson in the bottom of the 4th cut the Tornadoes lead to one run, but Storm Lake got one of those runs back in the 5th when Drew Price scored on a wild pitch.

Eddie threw six and a third innings in getting the win, striking out nine, and allowing five hits.  After walking the first batter he faced after coming on in relief, Kucera got the next two batters on popouts to get the save.

Tigers starter Ryan Boyd pitched well in defeat, going the distance, striking out eight, and giving up seven hits.  Spencer drops to 5-5, and 2-3 in the Lakes Conference.

Storm Lake is now 10-3, and 3-1 in the Lakes.  The Tornadoes are scheduled to play at Sergeant Bluff Luton on Tuesday.
