Winter Weather Advisory Issued for Storm Lake Area; Some Area Counties Under Blizzard Warning

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Ida, and O’Brien counties from 6pm this (Tues) evening until noon tomorrow (Wed).

Rain today will transition to sleet and snow tonight. Between one and three inches of snow accumulation is expected, with winds gusting as high as 55 miles-per-hour.

A Blizzard Warning is in effect from 9pm this evening until 3pm tomorrow for counties including Sac, Pocahontas, Calhoun, and Palo Alto. A High Wind Warning is also in effect during that time for those counties. The Blizzard Warning also includes northern, west central, and central Iowa.

Plan on slippery road conditions. Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact tomorrow morning’s commute. The strong wind activity could lead to tree damage.

The National Weather Service urges drivers to slow down and use caution while traveling. The latest road conditions can be found on the Iowa 5-1-1 website.
