The recent hot and dry weather continues to take a toll on Iowa’s crops.
The latest USDA report shows 49-percent of corn statewide is rated good-to-excellent, down five-percent from the previous week. Soybeans are also 49-percent good-to-excellent, a drop of four-percent.
The report says the stress on corn and soybeans have dried them out to the point that some farmers were getting equipment ready for harvest.
59-percent of topsoil and 64-percent of subsoil in northwest Iowa is considered either short or very short of moisture.
Just about all of last week was suitable for fieldwork in northwest Iowa and across the state.
