A wanted Storm Lake man received multiple charges following a burglary/assault incident over the weekend.
According to the Storm Lake Police Department, 40-year-old Jorge Torres Gonzalez entered an apartment in the 500 block of Oates Street without permission at approximately 4pm Saturday, threatened to kill a female occupant, and then assaulted her. During the altercation, Torres Gonzalez allegedly took the victim’s phone to prevent her from calling law enforcement. The victim was able to flee the residence and went to the Storm Lake Police Department to report the incident. Torres Gonzalez was located by officers shortly thereafter in the 700 block of Linden Lane in Storm Lake, where he was taken into custody without incident.
Torres Gonzalez was found to be wanted on several active warrants through Buena Vista County. The warrants stemmed from a report to Storm Lake Police back on April 1st in which a victim claimed that on the previous evening, Torres Gonzalez threw a knife at her head at the Oates Street residence. The victim claimed that Torres Gonzalez came back to the residence the next day and an argument ensued. Torres Gonzalez allegedly sprayed the victim in the face with bleach. The victim escaped the apartment and contacted Storm Lake Police. Officers were unable to locate Torres Gonzalez at that time.
Following his arrest over the weekend, Torres Gonzalez was charged with 1st Degree Burglary, a class B felony…two counts of 2nd Degree Burglary a class C felony…two counts of Domestic Assault With a Weapon and two counts of 1st Degree Harassment, both aggravated misdemeanors…and two counts of Obstruction of Emergency Communications, a simple misdemeanor. Torres Gonzalez was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a 37 thousand 600 dollar bond.
