Tyson Foods Awards Scholarships to Local Students

The Storm Lake Tyson Foods pork facility has awarded one-thousand dollar scholarships to eight area students through its annual local scholarship program.

The scholarships will help the students with their college or university education-related expenses such as tuition, books, academic fees, and room and board. Tyson awards scholarships to children of current Tyson team members based on student performance, involvement in school and in the community, and financial need.

Those that have been awarded a scholarship include Madeline Nera, Apisinee Thao, Yeeshai Valdivia, Jet Chanchom, Marlene Ally White, Maria Figueroa, Viviana Zavala Aguilera, and Marlene Cortez.

“It’s extremely rewarding to support our team members’ children by giving them greater access to opportunities to continue their education after graduation,” said Lonnie Woock, plant manager, Tyson Foods’ Storm Lake pork plant. “We’re proud of our ongoing contributions that help serve the communities where our team members work, live and play.”

Along with scholarships, Tyson Foods also offers a variety of educational service for team members through its Upward Academy program, and its recent announcement to provide access to free education for all team members.
