Two people died in a head-on crash this (Fri) afternoon just north of Spencer.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, the crash happened shortly before 1pm today approximately a half-mile north of the North Y on Highway 71. 70-year-old Randall Dykstra of Everly was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado northbound, while 45-year-old Bridget Baird of Milford was driving a 2017 Nissan Rogue southbound in the northbound lane.
Both Dykstra and Baird were pronounced dead at the scene. The highway in the area of the crash was shut down for several hours.
Assistance was provided at the scene by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Spencer Fire and Rescue, Fostoria Fire Department, and a towing service.
