Two local residents received prison sentences this week in Buena Vista County District Court for their involvement in an assault outside of an apartment complex in Storm Lake last year.
24-year-old Chuol Gatluak of Storm Lake and 20-year-old Arun Keyanye of Lakeside both pleaded guilty back on June 10th to Participating in a Riot, a class D felony. On Monday of this week, Gatluak and Keyanye were each sentenced to serve up to five years in prison with the Iowa Department of Corrections.
A total of five men were charged in the assault that happened on December 10th of 2023 outside of the apartments at 18 hundred East Milwaukee Avenue in Storm Lake. A male victim told Storm Lake Police that the suspects began arguing with him, and then hit him multiple times with their fists which resulted in serious injuries to the victim.
Gatluak is one of ten individuals charged in an assault incident in the early morning hours of July 9th in which a victim received serious facial injuries, including several broken bones.
