This past Saturday, July 1st, at around 10 pm, the Storm Lake Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Seneca Street and East Milwaukee Avenue in Storm Lake. A Police K9 was deployed and found narcotics inside the vehicle.
Following a subsequent search, police did come across open containers of alcohol, marijuana, prescription pills, psilocybin mushrooms, and a loaded firearm, which later was confirmed to have been stolen in a burglary in Hamilton County. Two teens and a 20-year-old were charged or issued citations for numerous misdemeanors.
David Washington, age 18, of Chicago, Illinois was charged with Trafficking in Stolen Weapons (Class D Felony); Possession of a Controlled Substance, Marijuana (Serious Misdemeanors); Possession of Controlled Substance, Psilocybin mushrooms (Serious Misdemeanor); Person Ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapons (Serious Misdemeanor); and Possession of Stolen Property 4th Degree (Serious Misdemeanor). Washington was transported to the Buena Vista County Jail where he was booked and held on a $9,000 bond.
Another party involved was 19-year-old Olivia Reis, of Fonda. She was charged with Possession of the Controlled Substance marijuana, a serious misdemeanor, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor. Reis was booked at the Buena Vista County Jail on a $1,300 bond.
Also, Katy Unger, age 20, of Fonda was cited for Minor in Possession of Alcohol, a simple misdemeanor. The incident still remains under investigation.
