Suspect Accused of Robbing a Sanborn Bank Pleads Guilty to Federal Charges

A Sanborn man has pleaded guilty in federal court following the robbery of a bank earlier this year.

40-year-old Del Martinnez Evans Jr. allegedly robbed the Sanborn Savings Bank back on January 22nd. He originally faced state charges of 2nd Degree Robbery and 2nd Degree Theft. Evans pleaded not guilty to those charges in February. The original charges were dismissed after federal charges of Robbery by Force or Violence were filed against Evans. He faces up to 20 years in prison, with a sentencing date to be determined.

According to a criminal complaint, Evans entered the bank and handed a teller a note indicating this was a robbery. The complaint says no weapons were displayed or referenced during the robbery, but Evans escaped with cash. He was arrested at his home in Sanborn shortly after the incident.
