The City of Storm Lake has made adjustments to its Mandatory Water Conservation measures following repair of City Well #11.
The well had failed July 30th, but is expected to go back into service today (Wed). At this time, mandatory water conservation measures will return to the status that had been ongoing prior to the well failure. Lawn watering will be allowed on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays only from midnight to 8am, and 8pm until midnight. Residents are asked to use water wisely, as 30-40 minutes of lawn watering is considered sufficient. Conserving water where possible ensures that there will be an adequate supply for all users, plus the necessary reserve for any firefighting needs.
The full listing of restrictions are listed below, and will remain in place until further notice.
- WATERING AND IRRIGATING – Lawn watering will be permitted only on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, outside the hours of 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Residents are encouraged to use sprinklers in an efficient manner so that water is not wasted on sidewalks and driveways. When watering gardens and flowers, avoid the peak heat of the day when the water evaporates away quickly.
- CAR WASHING – Residential car washing will be allowed at any time on Saturdays and Sundays, as recent water demand has been slightly lower on those days. Residents are still encouraged to wash vehicles in a way so that water is not wasted running into storm sewers.
- POWER WASHING – Business and home power washing will be permitted only on Saturdays and Sundays. Power washing on weekdays may be done only with City permission. Call 712-732-8000 for more information.
- POOLS AND SAUNAS – Swimming pools can be filled or re-filled only on Saturdays or Sundays. Water can be added to a pool to replace evaporation loss as needed.
- CLEANING CONCRETE – Use of water to clean driveways and sidewalks should continue to be avoided. Use a broom or blower to clean concrete areas.
