The Storm Lake St. Mary’s High School human anatomy and physiology class participated in the SCI@BVU competition this past Friday at Buena Vista University’s Estelle Siebens Science Center.
The event provided high school students from across the state an opportunity to work together and solve a mocked-up murder case using forensic science. The hands-on lab activities included DNA samples, fingerprints, pharmaceuticals, and code-cracking. The students, accompanied by their science, math, or TAG teachers, were divided into teams of four to use information from the crime scene to solve a complicated murder mystery.
Six St. Mary’s students participated including John Ching, Bennett Smith, Natalie Green, Arianna Ramirez Pantoja, Crystal Sennert, and Aidan Cavazos.
