Storm Lake School District Receives Top Recognition by USDA for Summer Meals Program

The Storm Lake Community School District’s summer meals program has been recognized with a Gold Level award by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

This spring, Storm Lake was one of two summer meal sponsors in the state to be recognized with a “Turnip The Beet” award for its efforts in 2023. Storm Lake is one of only 140 in the nation to receive the recognition. Storm Lake was also the highest-scoring district in the state in receiving the Gold Level distinction. This is the 4th year it has been recognized with a “Turnip The Beet” award, which was created to showcase sponsors who are going above and beyond to ensure that children in their care are receiving high-quality meals that are both nutritious and appetizing.

The Storm Lake district partners with Lunchtime Solutions to run its food service program. Meals are being served at the Storm Lake High School and Middle School. Meals are free to any child under the age of 18. Adult meals are also available for a small fee.
