Storm Lake School Board Meeting Notes

Storm Lake School Board members Dave Skibsted, Melea Raveling, and Emilia Marroquin were all sworn in to serve new terms as part of Tuesday’s regular monthly board meeting.

The board selected Skibsted to continue serving as board president, and Erica Dierking will remain the board’s vice president. Skibsted will continue as the board’s representative on the Buena Vista County Conference Board.

As part of the presentation of the annual Storm Lake School District financial report, Business Manager Trudy Pedersen said the district’s tax levy remains the same for the third year in a row at $17.17. The district has 6.6 million dollars of cash on hand. Pedersen said the district is in a good place financially.

The board approved a couple of new high school competency-based education courses. The new courses include Values Based Leadership: Leading With Purpose…and Values Based Leadership: Leadership in Action.

The board also approved the purchase of a couple of 2020 12-passenger vans for a total price of a little over 82 thousand dollars. Dierking said the vans are desperately needed.

The Storm Lake School Board regular meetings will begin a half hour earlier at 5pm typically on the third Wednesday of each month starting in December.
