Storm Lake Residents Urged to Help Identify Water Pipes

The City of Storm Lake has joined a nationwide effort to eradicate lead-based water lines and is asking for the public’s help in the process.

The Environmental Protection Agency and Iowa DNR are requiring all public water distributors to identify the material of water piping buried underground. The City of Storm Lake has joined efforts in identifying several water lines, and are asking for additional help from residents.

The City is asking for residents to locate a home water line, either coming out of the basement or crawl space and take a picture of the water line close to the floor or wall. Email that photo to leadcopper@stormlake.org and include both your name and address.

If you need assistance locating a water pipe, call Storm Lake City Hall at 732-8000 and schedule an appointment for an employee to stop by to gather the information needed. For those that participate, the City will be doing a drawing at the end of the year, to show their appreciation. The winner will receive a cooler gift pack from ISG Engineering.
