The Storm Lake Police Department fundraising goal for a new K-9 has been surpassed.
A total of two thousand dollars was raised for the effort through a recent Community Impact Night at Storm Lake Pizza Ranch, along with contributions from donors at Buena Vista University. BVU Criminology and Criminal Justice Club students were involved in the Community Impact Night.
In a statement, police chief Chris Cole said all of the donors who have contributed toward raising funds for the K-9 program are shining examples of what makes the City of Storm Lake such a special place. Cole said the support not only strengthens the department’s K-9 program, but also fosters the invaluable connection between law enforcement and the community.
Although the Storm Lake Police Department has reached its goal of funds to obtain and train a new dog, donations are still welcome to ensure the long-term success of the program. Donations can be sent to or dropped off at the police station at 401 East Milwaukee Avenue.
