A new handler has been assigned to the Storm Lake Police Department’s K-9 program.
Officer Mitchell Fritz has taken over as K-9 handler. Fritz has been with the Storm Lake Police Department since 2020. The previous K-9 handler left the department for private-sector employment.
Fritz is paired with police dog Ozzy, who has worked with the department since 2019. The dog was obtained thanks to community donations.
Officer Fritz attended North Iowa K-9 certification training, which focused on drug detection, obedience, tracking, article recovery, building search, and suspect apprehension. Fritz and Ozzy completed training that lasted about a month.
