A former member of the Storm Lake Volunteer Firefighters Association was sentenced Monday in Buena Vista County District Court for stealing money from the organization.
Back on May 6th, 29-year-old Jesus Rojo of Storm Lake pleaded guilty to 2nd Degree Theft, a class D felony. Rojo was granted a deferred judgment and was placed on probation for two years with the Iowa Department of Corrections. He was also ordered to pay back over ten-thousand dollars to the Storm Lake Volunteer Firefighters Association.
According to a criminal complaint, Rojo took possession of approximately $7,769 in Storm Lake Volunteer Firefighters Association funds for his own personal use from January to July of last year. The Storm Lake Police Department was notified of discrepancies in financial records on September 14th of last year, and Rojo was taken into custody without incident that day. Rojo served as the secretary/treasurer of the firefighters association in Storm Lake.
