A Storm Lake man who was involved in a pursuit with a stolen vehicle last summer was sentenced last week in Buena Vista County District Court to serve up to five years in prison.
In late November, 20-year-old Andrew Romero of Storm Lake pleaded guilty to Eluding or Attempting to Elude a Law Enforcement Vehicle, a class D felony. He will serve the prison term with the Iowa Department of Corrections.
A Storm Lake Police officer noticed a vehicle driven by Romero was traveling at a high rate of speed during the evening of August 19th of last year in the 300 block of Lake Avenue. A traffic stop was attempted, but Romero led officers on a short pursuit that ended in the 900 block of Lake Avenue where the vehicle stopped. Romero and a passenger fled on foot before being apprehended. Storm Lake Police were later informed that the vehicle had been reported stolen a Sioux City the day before the incident.
