A Storm Lake man was arrested on several drug-related charges following a pursuit.
At approximately 9:45 Tuesday evening, Storm Lake Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a minor violation in the 700 block of West 8th Street. The driver was identified as 38-year-old Jose Nava Fernandez. A K9 was subsequently deployed, which indicated the odor of narcotics in the vehicle. Following a search, police allegedly located an amount of marijuana inside the vehicle. As police attempted to take Nava Fernandez into custody, he fled from officers on foot into a residential area before he was ultimately caught and taken into custody. Police allege that during the foot pursuit, Nava Fernandez discarded a bag containing methamphetamine. A police officer also allegedly suffered minor bodily injuries during the incident which did not require medical treatment.
Nava Fernandez was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine With Intent to Deliver, a class B felony…Failure to Affix a Drug Tax Stamp, a class D felony…Possession of Controlled Substances Methamphetamine and Marijuana, and Interference With Official Acts Causing Bodily Injury, all serious misdemeanors…and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor. Nava Fernandez was booked in the Buena Vista County Jail on a 108-thousand 300 dollar bond.
