Storm Lake Man Arrested After Threatening to Kill Woman ; Loaded Handgun Uncovered

A man was recently arrested for assaulting and threatening to kill a woman.

According to the Storm Lake Police Department, an adult female came to the police station around 8:45 Friday morning to report the incident that reportedly happened at a residence on the west end of town in Emerald Park. The victim alleged that a man had repeatedly struck her in the face and threatened to kill her. The man reportedly took the victim’s cell phone when she attempted to call police. The victim was able to escape and fled to the police department. The victim reportedly last saw the suspect in possession of a handgun.

Later Friday morning, police officers and sheriff’s deputies converged on the residence and secured a perimeter. A police crisis negotiator was called to the scene and contacted the suspect via cell phone. Shortly thereafter, the suspect peacefully surrendered by exiting the house, and was taken into custody. Police recovered a loaded nine-millimeter handgun at the scene.

The suspect, 31-year-old Jesus Garcia of Storm Lake, was charged with Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Injury, a serious misdemeanor…1st Degree Harassment, an aggravated misdemeanor…and Obstruction of Emergency Communications, a simple misdemeanor. Garcia was booked without bond into the Buena Vista County Jail.
