A professional school counselor in the Storm Lake Community School District is the recipient of the 2024 High School Counselor of the Year award.
Crystal Nieland received the award, which is given by the Iowa Association for College Admission Counseling. A news release from the Storm Lake District states that Nieland earned the prestigious recognition due to her dedication and exceptional contributions during this past school year. As a school counselor, Nieland leads 12th-grade students through post-secondary education and career planning, prioritizing both academic success and student well-being.
“We are immensely proud of Crystal’s dedication to our students and her influence on their academic and personal growth,” said Storm Lake Superintendent Dr. Stacey Cole. “This recognition from the Iowa Association for College Admission Counseling emphasizes the importance of our school counselors in guiding students toward successful futures.”
“It is truly an honor to be named High School Counselor of the Year by the Iowa ACAC,” said Nieland. “I am grateful for the opportunity to support our students in navigating their educational journeys and am committed to continuing to serve our community with passion and dedication.”
Nieland joined the Storm Lake Community School District as a high school counselor in August of 2022.
