A Storm Lake resident will be hosting a Practical Farmers of Iowa Field Day.
The event hosted by Tate Carlson is scheduled for Thursday, August 29th from 10am to noon at 6342 120th Avenue in Storm Lake. All events are led by PFI farmer members who believe in sharing their knowledge, discoveries, mistakes, and successes so others can learn and grow their own operation. Field day topics span the agricultural spectrum and showcase farmers with operations of all sizes and production practices.
Carlson grew up on a row crop and cattle farm. A press release states that he is eager to join the Hayes Farm family business. Carlson planted his first produce crops three years ago. Tate has experimented with production and marketing. To build soil health and fertility, he planted small grains followed by cover crops that are grazed by cattle ahead of planting the produce. Carlson made use of existing resources by converting field crop equipment to plant vegetables.
Practical Farmers of Iowa Field Days are free for anyone to attend. RSVP’s are encouraged. Sign up on the Practical Farmers of Iowa website.
