A couple of work sessions are on the agenda for the Storm Lake City Council today (Mon) as they meet in regular session.
The council will hold a work session regarding a potential pigeon ordinance. Some requests have been made to create a local ordinance to help prevent conflicts between owners of domestic pigeons and adjoining property owners. The city previously came up with an ordinance, but it stalled after the 1st reading when pigeon owners, one family specifically that takes part in the hobby of raising and racing homing pigeons, voiced concerns, particularly language that would have allowed no more that ten pigeons to be kept on a property. The council decided to give the matter further consideration.
Another work session will focus on a review of City Code pertaining to truck routes.
The council will consider a motion to reject bids for a College and 3rd Street Lift Station project. According to information provided by the City, the low bid for the project is over the engineer’s estimate by nearly 100 thousand dollars, and the City doesn’t have additional funding to cover the additional cost due to the number of other projects being completed at this time.
The council will also consider adopting a Conflict-Of-Interest Policy for projects funded in whole or in part by the U.S. Department of Energy.
The Storm Lake City Council meeting begins at 5pm at City Hall. The meeting can also be accessed via computer or phone.
