The Storm Lake City Council on Monday approved a contract for the city’s participation in the state’s Hometown Pride Program.
The purpose of the program is to enhance physical, cultural, and economic improvements in communities. An alliance is created consisting of several communities that commit to the program for five years. City Communications Coordinator Dana Larsen pointed out that the council previously approved Storm Lake joining the program, as well as funding…
Storm Lake committed to paying $11,759 per year for the five-year life of the program. Larsen said that number will be a little bit less due to the commitment of two small towns in the county to be part of the alliance. The total annual cost of 20 thousand dollars in matching funds is divided among the region’s communities based on population. The other members of the alliance include Albert City, Alta, Aurelia, Lake Park, Lakeside, Marathon, Newell, Rembrandt, Royal, and Sioux Rapids. The “Keep Iowa Beautiful” organization that runs Hometown Pride will contribute 60 thousand dollars per year towards the program.
