Larsen said the basic idea of Hometown Pride is to create an alliance of seven to ten communities that commit to five years in the program…
Communities in the region met in Storm Lake on April 30th to learn more about Hometown Pride. The prospective group includes Storm Lake, Spencer, Alta, Aurelia, Newell, Lake Park, Lakeside, Royal, and Sioux Rapids…
The total cost is 20 thousand dollars annually, and it’s split per capita between participating communities. Storm Lake would contribute approximately $7,646 per year for five years if all other communities in the group are on board. The council agreed to put a cap on their annual amount at $10,000 if other communities don’t sign up, although Larsen and Mayor Mike Porsch indicated most already have or indicated that they will. Spencer wasn’t part of the original regional meeting, and their city council is expected to vote later this month. Spencer and Storm Lake would contribute around the same amount of money annually for the program.
Larsen said it could be in operation before the end of this year if everything goes accordingly.
