State Audit Report Released on Pocahontas County Solid Waste Commission

State Auditor Rob Sand on Tuesday released an audit report on the Pocahontas County Solid Waste Commission.

According to the report, the commission had total receipts of over 430 thousand dollars for the year ended June 30th, 2024, a decrease of less than one percent. Disbursements for the fiscal year totaled over 450 thousand dollars, an increase of 7.28 percent. The significant increase in disbursements is primarily due to a seven percent across the board pay increase for all employees, and additional repair and maintenance disbursements.

Sand reported four findings related to the receipt and disbursement of taxpayer funds. The findings address a lack of segregation of duties, pre-numbered scale tickets not properly accounted for, and a bank used which was not on the approved depository resolution. Sand provided the Pocahontas County Solid Waste Commission with recommendations to address each of the findings. One of the findings is repeated from the previous year.
