Spencer Police Attacked by Dogs While Conducting Welfare Check

Spencer police say an officer had to put down a pit bull after being attacked by the animal while conducting a welfare check.

Police were responding to the 900 block of East 7th Street around 6pm Tuesday and encountered a person who they say was verbally abusive. According to police, two officers were then attacked by two dogs that were released by the person. One of them, a pit bull, chased an officer off the property. That dog was put down. The resident went back inside the residence and was taken into custody after a couple of hours. That person was taken to Spencer Hospital for an evaluation.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene.
