A Spencer man was sentenced Wednesday to nearly three-and-a-half years in federal prison after pleading guilty in Sioux City Federal Court to being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm.
26-year-old Casey Tuttle was previously convicted in 2021 in Iowa District Court of 3rd Degree Burglary…3rd or Subsequent Offense Possession of Methamphetamine, and was convicted of 2nd Degree Burglary in 2018. Each of these are felony convictions which prohibit Tuttle from possessing a firearm or ammunition.
Evidence showed that in the early morning of April 4th, 2024, Spencer Police Department officers stopped Tuttle riding his bike in the dark without taillights or reflectors. It was determined Tuttle had outstanding arrest warrants, so he was placed under arrest. During a search of Tuttle and a backpack he was wearing, law enforcement located a .22 caliber revolver, ammunition, marijuana, knives, 1 gram of methamphetamine, and other drug-use paraphernalia. Tuttle admitted to law enforcement he was a drug user. As a drug user, Tuttle is also prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition.
Tuttle remains in custody of the United States Marshal until he can be transported to a federal prison.
