A Spencer man was sentenced last Friday to spend 17 years in federal prison for methamphetamine and gun convictions.
According to a press release, 43-year-old Oscar Navarro-Zepeda of Spencer was previously convicted by a jury this past August after a three-and-a-half day trial in Sioux City Federal Court. Navarro-Zepeda was convicted of Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetamine…Possession With Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine…Possession of Firearms by Prohibited Person…and Possession of a Firearm in Furtherance of a Drug Trafficking Crime.
Evidence showed that between April of 2021 and April of 2023, Navarro-Zepeda was involved in a conspiracy that distributed more than 31 kilograms of meth. Evidence also showed that during a search warrant at Navarro-Zepeda’s residence in April of 2023, law enforcement seized approximately 33 pounds of methamphetamine in separate one-pound packages, which he intended to distribute to others in the Spencer area. Officers also seized a rifle, loaded magazines, ammunition, various items of drug distribution and use paraphernalia, and nearly 18 thousand dollars. Navarro-Zepeda was prohibited from possessing firearms, and possessed a firearm in furtherance of his drug trafficking to protect himself, his drugs, and drug proceeds from others.
Navarro-Zepeda remains in the U.S. Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.
