Sac County Man Sentenced to Prison for Child Sexual Abuse

A Sac County man has been sentenced in Sac County District Court to prison for child sexual abuse.

According to the Sac County Attorney’s Office, 67-year-old Keith Mesner of Sac City was convicted last Friday of 3rd Degree Sexual Abuse, a class C felony. Mesner pleaded guilty back on July 17th. He was sentenced to serve ten years in prison, which is the maximum allowed under law. Mesner was also placed on the Iowa Sex Offender Registry for the rest of his life.

Mesner’s victim was 14 years old at the time of the offense which occurred three years ago. According to a criminal complaint, on December 24th, 2021, the Sac City Police Department was informed that Mesner committed a sex act with a child the previous month at his residence in Sac City. Additional evidence obtained from the victim’s father, and statements made by Mesner corroborated many of the allegations.

The case was investigated by the Sac City Police Department, assisted by the Sac County Sheriff’s Office. The case was prosecuted by Sac County Attorney Ben Smith.
