A meeting will be held tomorrow (Tues) for those interested in improving natural resources for the direct benefit of Buena Vista and other northwest Iowa counties.
The REAP program regional assembly meeting will be held on Tuesday from 1 to 3pm in the Oneota Lodge in Spencer. REAP stands for Resource Enhancement and Protection. The meeting in Spencer is meant for residents in counties including Buena Vista, Clay, O’Brien, and Palo Alto.
REAP funding for Buena Vista County projects over years include 140-thousand dollars in city park projects, 350-thousand dollars in county conservation board projects, 109-thousand dollars in historical resources projects, 34-thousand dollars in roadside vegetation projects, and 811-thousand dollars in soil and water conservation projects.
REAP assemblies are held across the state every two years. Attendees will have the chance to identify opportunities for regional projects, and review and recommend changes in policies, programs, and funding. Following the assemblies, elected delegates from each region will attend the statewide REAP Congress in January. Regional priorities will be voted on by the REAP Congress and sent to the governor and legislature.
