Red Flag Warning Will Go Into Effect Today in the Area

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for Buena Vista and surrounding counties from 10am this (Fri) morning until 6pm this evening.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.

Northwest winds of 25 to 35 miles-per-hour are expected, with gusts up to 50. Relative humidity will dip as low as 32 percent. Any fire that develops will catch and spread quickly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

The Grassland Fire Danger Index will reach the extreme category this (Fri) afternoon, and will be in the moderate category Saturday afternoon.
