The Buena Vista County Conservation Board recently stocked Gustafson Lake at Gabrielson Park south of Sioux Rapids with approximately 600 pounds of Rainbow Trout for the public to catch throughout the ice fishing season.
Conservation Board Director Greg Johnson says current ice conditions at the lake are sufficient for walking and congregating in small groups. Johnson says most of the fish stocked range from a half to three quarters of a pound, but quite a few were over a couple of pounds.
All fishing regulations from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources must be followed. Anglers will need a valid fishing license, and the trout fee to fish or possess trout. Fishing licenses and the trout fee can be purchased at the BV Recorder’s Office, online, or at any other fishing license retailer.
Children under 16 can fish for trout with a properly licensed adult, but they must limit their catch to one combined daily limit. A child can purchase a trout fee which will allow them to catch their own limit. The daily limit is five trout per licensed angler, with a possession limit of ten.
