Rain Last Week Impacted Fieldwork, Moisture Levels

Much-needed rain across the state last week meant that Iowa farmers had just 4.7 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA Crop Progress Report.

Slightly more than five days were suitable for fieldwork in northwest Iowa.

38 percent of topsoil in northwest Iowa has adequate moisture, a 17 percent increase from the previous week. 34 percent of northwest Iowa subsoil has adequate moisture, up four percent from last week.

Corn harvested for grain reached 92 percent statewide, which is six days ahead of last year, and two weeks ahead of the five-year average. 97 percent of northwest Iowa corn has been harvested for grain. Moisture content of field corn harvested for grain held steady at 14 percent.
