Authorities lost sight of a driver in a field in Pocahontas County following a pursuit this (Tues) morning.
A Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputy reportedly saw an erratic driver on a Humboldt County road driving dangerously in a flatbed truck westbound on Highway 3. When the deputy tried to conduct a traffic stop, the driver sped off continuing on Highway 3 into Pocahontas County. In an attempt to avoid stop sticks that were deployed by Pocahontas County Sheriff Deputies, the truck entered a farm field near the intersection of Highway 3 and N-65. Authorities say the truck drove through soybean and corn fields for nearly a mile between Pocahontas and Gilmore City before getting stuck in a ditch near the intersection of 530th Street and N-65 in Pocahontas County.
The Humboldt County Sheriff’s office says a perimeter was set up and drones were used but they say the suspect could not be found because of the thick cover in the corn fields. Deputies say the truck was reported stolen to the Story County Sheriff’s office earlier that morning. Contents from the truck will be sent to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation in Ankeny for testing.
