The percentage of Iowa corn and soybeans rated good to excellent both fell by three-percent to 63-percent, according to this week’s report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
23-percent of the state’s corn crop is mature, with 24-percent mature in northwest Iowa. Soybeans reaching coloring or beyond is at 58-percent in northwest Iowa, and 48-percent statewide.
Fieldwork during the week that ended September 11th included chopping corn, harvesting corn for seed, cutting hay, and seeding cover crops. Producers were also preparing equipment for harvest.
68-percent of topsoil in northwest Iowa is either short or very short of moisture.
There were six days suitable for fieldwork last week statewide, and more than six days were suitable in northwest Iowa.
